4. Agent

The menace of the first half of the September 2011 got a “The Agent of Mystery – Earth” back on September 1, 2012, but it took until YCS Providence for the deck to return to the spotlight with 5/32 of that Top Cut. It took up 6/32 in Tacoma, and dropped to 4/32 in Barcelona.

Agents is a one of the most explosive decks this format; it can OTK from a lot of angles. It packs a plethora of boss monsters in “Master Hyperion“, “Archlord Kristya,” “Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning,” and to an extent, “Chaos Sorcerer.” The most successful Agent varants this format neutralize all backrow removal, by only ever setting the 2 for 1 “Treacherous Trap Hole,” or using “Call of the Haunted” which float for a +1 off “Sangan” or “Card Trooper.” This deck uses just about every handtrap you can think of and is probably the only deck which can fully maximize the utility of “Tragoedia.” It can even summon just about any Extra Deck card it desires with Earth, its 3 “Mystical Shine Ball” and “The Agent of Creation – Venus.” There are also lots of fun combos to be hand with Hyperion, The Agent monsters, and “Leviair the Sea Dragon.” Perhaps though, the biggest strength of Agent is its patience, the deck can sit on Tragoedia or “Gachi Gachi Gantetsu” for a long time while it digs for an OTK and deters opposing pushes with its fully stocked arsenal of handtraps.

Agents may be another explosive grave-oriented deck, but it does not get as crippled by grave control cards which Fire Kings and Mermail do. These cards only neutralize some of it handtraps and can cause it lose fodder for its Hyperion, Kristya, and Chaos Monsters. The biggest treat to Agent is heavy pressure and a lot of spot removal equivalent to the level it produces itself as well as a well timed “Leeching the Light.”

Agents did not gain anything from the new releases but that may not be a handicap; Simon He was able to top 3 YCSs in a row with essentially the same Main Deck in the wake of past impactful additions to the TCG cardpool.

Estimated Win-Percentage:

  • vs. Fire, 40.00%
  • vs. Mermail, 50.00%
  • vs. Wind-Up, 50.00%
  • vs. Rabbit, 60.00%
